52 Puffins – #19The Horn Bird (Alice in Wonderland)

What is 52 Puffins – Waiting in the wings? Well, although we love our main characters, in 2013 we think it's time to celebrate the supporting cast: the extras with the witty one-liners, the dastardly villains and the best friend every hero would be lost without. Who's your favourite?

One of our super work experience team has chosen this week's sidekick. A big thank you to  Paroma who's just finished studying four years of Fine Art and History of Art at Reading and is off to do an MA in publishing in September (so hopefully we'll see her again soon). If you love her painting of the Horn Bird then why not explore her rather fine tumblr to see where she gets her inspiration!

HornbirdWhy
you love him?

The horn bird is a
loveable, often overlooked creature in Alice
in Wonderland, along with the accordion owl. She appears with her children to
give Alice support when she is alone in the middle of the wood. I love the bird
for its purple feathers, gentle nature and for simply being one of a kind.

What’s
his catchphrase or best quote?
She
communicates buckets with her eyes, and probably her nose too.

Tell
us something we might not know.
Mock
turtle soup is real

What really annoys him? The Cheshire Cat

What
does he dream of?
The world on the other
side of the Rabbit Hole

Where
would you go to hang out together?
Under a nice tree
